Reporting to the Supervisor – Architectural & Communications, you are accountable for the development, preparation and review of technical specifications and standards for contract documents prepared for the project. In addition, the Specifications/Standards Co-ordinator is responsible for contributing to the development of the company's master specifications and Standards and co-ordinating consultant specifications. Working with the integrated firm and consultant project teams, your responsibilities include:
· writing, editing and coordinating technical specification sections;
· coordinating specifications with contract drawings;
· evaluating new systems/technologies/equipment;
· coordinating the issue of company specifications and standards to consultants;
· directing consultants in the development of new company specifications;
· checking that consultant specifications are accurate and complete and conform to Commission and regulatory requirements;
· interfacing with Project Management and designers in the preparation of Division 1 (contract general requirements);
· interfacing with Material and Procurement in the preparation of Document 0 (contract tender and commercial requirements);
· conducting final review of specifications before tender;
· preparing contract addenda during the tender process;
· interpreting specification requirements for contractors and company field staff during construction period;
· providing technical input in the preparation of contract changes; and,
· reviewing contract changes and coordinate lessons learned from the project back to company Standards.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
Accreditation as a Registered Specification Writer is mandatory. You require extensive knowledge of specification preparation, design and construction practices, the project management environment, contractual practices and procedures, and the terminology and techniques used in this jurisdiction. You must have a thorough working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, regulations and statutes relevant to the job. Experience with, and knowledge of the specialized requirements of transit and related facilities is also required, along with ability to interpret drawings of all design disciplines, to understand the technical implications and incorporate them into specifications. You must have an ability to develop new standards and interpret technical data on materials, products and systems to assess quality, durability, maintainability and suitability to company requirements. You must demonstrate proficiency in the use of word processing applications, Excel, and e-mail on personal computers. Applicant must possess sound judgment, strong analytical and problem solving skills along with the ability to work well within a team environment.
